Hope

I love you Elton Yang.

I’ve known you since like middle school, but I guess I just never really talked to you. I actually only really started talking to you this year. But today, your testimony was amazing. It seriously was. I  had no idea that you’ve endured so much in just seventeen years, and the mere fact that you can have hope gives me hope. The fact that you can encourage others and be happy makes me want to live life with a little bit more energy and exuberance.

And so I won’t let colleges or anything else in my life make me lose hope.

Today, Yuji made a really great analogy, and it really clicked for me. As all you APUSHer’s know, after the civil war, slavery was abolished. However, because the slaves had no other means of living, because they were born in slavery and the life of bondage was all they knew, they returned to slavery through the form of sharecropping (see, I did learn stuff in APUSH). And that is just like us. Christ’s death freed us from sin, but because we were born in the life of sin, because sin is so familiar to us, we constantly turn back to it. Despite attaining freedom, we turn back to our human roots and once again, revert to sin. This characteristic of humans is so strange, yet holds true. As another Easter Sunday comes and goes, I need to remember not to return to my old life, but to live the new life that I have been given.

Congrats everyone who got baptized today! I’m really really happy for you. Looking forward to hearing the rest of your testimonies next week.
